Summary:
This article explains that the Epson TM-88 uses physical dip switches (under a bottom service cover) to control printer and serial communication settings that must match the connected meter (handshaking, parity, baud rate), and shows how to print a Configuration Ticket to read the actual switch positions. It then lists recommended Bank 1 and Bank 2 switch settings — including the baud-rate mapping for dip switches 7 & 8 (default/recommended 9600) and the print-density options for dips 3 & 4 — and warns that some switches are reserved or optional.

Environment:
- Epson TM-88 Printer
Answer:
The Epson TM-88 has physical dip switches that control some of the printers settings. Some of these dip switch settings are used for serial communication to the meters. These communication settings need to match the printer communication settings that are set on the meter (Handshaking, Parity Check, Parity Selection, Baud Rate).
*Note: Sometimes the default printer settings do not match the meter's default settings Or the printer communication settings may have been changed on your meter.
The dip switches are located on the bottom of the printer under a service cover.
These dip switches can be difficult to see what position they are in. You can print a Configuration Ticket to see exactly what position the dip switches are on.
