Issue / Question :
- When connecting a Zebra RW420 to an LCR-II truck, there will be configuration required on both the register and printer before successful operation.
- Please see the following sections for all required configuration.
Environment:
- Cargas Energy
Resolution / Answer:
Register/Printer Connection and Wiring
-
The Zebra RW420 solution for Mobile Delivery should include the following hardware:
- Zebra RW420 Printer
- Vehicle Docking Station
- In addition to the above, your truck shop will be required to provide a 9-25 pin NULL modem connection between the lap pad adapter and the printer's docking station.
Register Configuration
- The LCR-II must first meet all pre-requisite wiring and configuration to be compatible with Mobile Delivery.
- The LCR-II register must also be configured for a printer type of OKIDATA ML184T in order to be compatible with the Zebra RW420 printer.
- By default, the LCR-II will be set to an Epson printer type but this configuration can be changed by your truck shop using an LC Lap Pad or the LC EZCommand Lite software.
Printer Configuration and Settings
- The Zebra RW420 printer must be configured to communicate in line_print mode in order to be compatible with the LCR-II. All power saving and sleep options should also be disabled on the printer.
-
In order to simplify the configuration process, the "Configure Printer" button can be used in Mobile Delivery 2017 in order to send these configuration settings directly to the printer. That can be accomplished by following the below steps:
- Open the New Mobile Delivery application on your tablet and make sure the tablet is docked or connected to the truck.
- Run the Truck Setup Wizard to configure the truck for an LCR2 Register and Zebra Printer using the desired connection methods.
- Start a new shift in the truck that was just configured.
- Navigate to the "My Shift" section of the application and click the "Configure Printer" button under the Truck Setup heading.
- Once completed successfully, you will see the Zebra RW420 printer reboot.
- If the Configure Printer button does not successfully complete the configuration or if you prefer to configure the printer manually, the individual commands can be sent to the printer through Zebra's own configuration software (Zebra Setup Utilities) available on their support site.
Once all of the above configurations have been completed, the LCR-II should now be capable of printing directly to the Zebra via the serial connection. This can be tested by completing a manual delivery on the register or printing a calibration ticket from the LCR-II. Additionally, you should be able to successfully complete and print a fully formatted delivery ticket through the Mobile Delivery application.
