Zebra Printer - Sending Configuration Commands

Issue:

  • The manufacturer default settings of a Zebra printer will need to be altered prior to using the printer in a delivery truck or with any Cargas Mobile applications.

Resolution / Answer:

Setup of the Zebra printer will require the following:

  1. Zebra Setup Utilities Software. This can be downloaded HERE . You may need to register for an account prior to accessing the download.
    • On that page, you will need to scroll down find the below download:

  2. A Windows 7, 8.1, or 10 computer with available USB port.
  3. A USB cable is required to connect to the printer.
    1. Zebra RW420 requires a USB-A Male to USB Mini B cable
    2. Zebra ZQ520 requires a USB-A Male to USB Micro B cable.

Once you have the Zebra setup utilities and the configuration file downloaded, please follow the below steps to configure the optimal printer and power options:

  1. Run the installation for Zebra Setup Utilities.
    1. Please follow the installation prompts and accept all default settings.
    2. Click Finish when done but do not launch the application yet.
  2. Power up the Zebra printer and connect it to the computer via USB.
    1. If this is the first time you have connected it to this computer, you may need to allow some time for the drivers to finish installing.
  3. Open the Zebra Setup Utilities application.
  4. Highlight the installed printer and select Open Printer Communication from the Printer Configuration menu.

  5. From the Direct Communication window, enter or copy any and all configuration commands into the blank workspace in the top half of the window. Once all commands have been entered, select the Send To Printer button in order to send the commands to the Zebra printer.
