LCR-II / Zebra ZQ520 Wiring and Configuration

Issue / Question :

  • When connecting a Zebra ZQ520 to an LCR-II truck, there will be configuration required on both the register and printer before successful operation.
  • Please see the following sections for all required configuration.

Environment:

  • Cargas Energy

Resolution / Answer:

Register/Printer Connection and Wiring

  • The Zebra ZQ520 kit for Mobile Delivery should include the following hardware:
    • Zebra ZQ520 Printer
    • Vehicle Docking Station
    • USB-to-Serial Adapter
  • In addition to the above, your truck shop will be required to provide a 9-25 pin straight-through connection between the lap pad adapter and the printer's adapter.
    • Recommended hardware to complete this connection is as follows:
      • StarTech 6-Foot Straight Through Serial Cable - DB9 F/F (MXT100FF) IMG_1949_1_.JPG
      • StarTech DB9 to DB25 Serial Adapter - M/F (AT925MF) IMG_1948_1_.JPG
      • When using the above hardware, the null-modem adapter included with the Zebra USB-to-Serial adapter is not required and must not be used.
  • Correct connection using the above-noted hardware will look like the below image IMG_1946_1_.JPG

Register Configuration

    • The LCR-II must first meet all pre-requisite wiring and configuration to be compatible with Mobile Delivery.

NOTE:

The LCR-II register must also be configured for a printer type of OKIDATA ML184T in order to be compatible with the Zebra ZQ520 printer.

  • By default, the LCR-II will be set to an Epson printer type but this configuration can be changed by your truck shop using an LC Lap Pad or the LC EZCommand Lite software.
  • The length of the meter block must be 6 line feeds long or less to allow both the meter block and formatted ticket to fit on a single label. The meter block format can be changed by your truck shop and requires flashing a new ticket format to the register.

Once all of the above configurations have been completed, the LCR-II should now be capable of printing directly to the Zebra via the serial connection. This can be tested by completing a manual delivery on the register or printing a calibration ticket from the LCR-II. Additionally, you should be able to successfully complete and print a fully formatted delivery ticket through the Mobile Delivery application.
