Mobile Delivery- Resetting COM Port on Windows Devices (Toughpads)

Issue / Question :

In Cargas Mobile Delivery you can set the COM port the device will use to communicate with the meter. Typically this is set to COM1 in the truck set up screen of Mobile Delivery. Please follow the steps below to reset you COM port when getting a COM error or you cannot find the correct COM1 port.

Environment:

  • Old Mobile Delivery/New Mobile Delivery
  • Windows Devices only (Toughpads)

Resolution / Answer:

  1. Go to Control Panel > Device Manager > Ports (COM & LPT). Capture.PNG
  2. On the top menu of the device manager click, View.
  3. Once in View drop down select show hidden devices.
  4. If there are any USB Serial Ports in the list, Right click the port and click Uninstall. (Make sure you keep the check box unchecked that says delete driver software for this device).
    -If there are no USB Serial Ports listed or it is grayed out, see the Cause/Notes section at the bottom of article Capture1.PNG
  5. Make sure the Toughpad is not in the Tabcruzer/ undock the device
  6. Navigate to File Explorer>C:/drive>Mobile Master>Drivers and Fixes.
    1. If this directory and/or the IgnoreSerialNo file does not exist, you can download it directly here or find the attached file on this article.
    2. You will need to access this article on the device so you may download this onto the Tough pad
    3. Look for this in the downloads folder on the device
    4. Drag and drop the file into Mobile master folder in the C:/drive
  7. Select the program IgnoreSerialNo, right click and run as Administrator.

  8. Click the Device Type, Select FT232R/BM (First on the List) than click Write.

  9. Click Close and OK and redock the device .
  10. Navigate back to Control Panel > Device Manager > Ports.
  11. Right Click the Serial Port and select Settings > Port Settings > Advanced.

  12. Change the COM port number in the drop down to COM1 and click Ok.
